July 6, 2015(1 event) Jurassic World is a huge, exciting theme park located on a remote island in the Pacific. The staff in the lab have been using genetic testing to learn about the creatures of the past, and to create one for the future – a new dinosaur. With the island packed full with tourists, the last thing that they need is for a threat to public safety. Sadly, that’s exactly what they get when their hybrid creature breaks loose. With lives endangered, it is up to Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) to save everyone from total disaster. This hybrid dinosaur has been created with a remarkable level of intelligence, so catching her is going to be near impossible. Can they prevent the island from falling into total catastrophe? 22 years after the release of Jurassic Park comes the fourth instalment in the series, which is set to be one of the most thrilling and dramatic episodes yet. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, and featuring the trademark music that the franchise has become so known for, Jurassic World is a gripping action adventure which will be an unforgettable movie experience for fans both old and new. July 10, 2015(1 event) – Whitby Sea Festival is an annual festival which takes place in and around the historic Yorkshire seaport of Whitby, one of Britain's premier maritime heritage sites. The festival celebrates Whitby and the Yorkshire Coast's proud connections to fishing, the sea and maritime heritage. Since its beginnings in 1993 as The Captain Cook Festival and then for 12 years at Seafest in Scarborough, the event has staged some of the biggest gatherings of sea balladeers, shantymen, folk musicians and singers in the UK. The festival promotes local musicians alongside those with international acclaim. So far, our programme has included the cream of the folk, roots, sea music and the shanty world .We have also enjoyed music from other nations including Senegal, Sicily, Canada, Eire, Luxembourg, Germany, Holland, France and the USA. Once again the festival is based in The Met on Argyle Road, West Cliff where you will find our box office, Shop Point and the main venue for ticketed events. This year we have added the Rifle Club as a second venue. The Rifle Club is situated opposite Whitby Leisure centre and is a short walk from The Met . Some daytime events and workshops will be held here. During Saturday and Sunday there will also be Shanties and Sea Songs aplenty at the Banstand and The Dock end – free for all to enjoy so make sure to catch them. There's a great variety of activities across the weekend including Maritime – themed concerts, workshops, singarounds, sessions and the popular 'Song for the Sea' song competition. Whitby Sea Festival brings the town alive with the sound of Shanties and Sea Songs. July 19, 2015(1 event) It is 1947, and Sherlock Holmes lives in the peace and quiet of his Sussex home, surrounded by the bees he keeps, as well as his housekeeper and her son. Sherlock is 93 now, and as he attempts to recall the details of his last case, he finds that the minutiae begin to slip away from him. With the inevitable decline of dementia creeping up on him, Sherlock tracks his memory loss with every passing day, and frantically struggles to document the case of Ann Kelmot. The details escape him more and more, but he is desperate to record it as he knows it happened, and not in the sensational way that Dr John Watson wrote down their adventures. Can Britain’s sharpest mind overcome the trials of memory loss? This is Sherlock Holmes as you have never seen him before, played to perfection by star of stage and screen, Ian McKellen (The Hobbit: the Battle of the Five Armies). With supporting performances from Laura Linney (The Fifth Estate), Roger Allam (The Book Thief) and Hiroyuki Sanada (The Railway Man), Mr Holmes is a moving and gripping story about a national treasure, and his life after the end of his detective career. Adults: £6 / Children: £5 / Friends of Whitby Pavilion: £5 / Family of 4: £20 Running Time: 103 mins Sunday 19 July 7.30pm Whitby Pavilion West Cliff Whitby, North Yorkshire YO21 3EN UK 01947 458 899 |

July 24, 2015(1 event) Over thousands of centuries, the Minions have travelled the globe with just one aim in life – to find themselves a strong, powerful leader to give them guidance, balance and of course, a source of food. Along the way they manage to acquire a huge variety of different leaders, from an almighty dinosaur, to the Pharaohs, Napoleon and even Count Dracula himself! Sadly, they all have a tendency to meet a rather unfortunate demise at the hands of the Minions – whose best intentions always seem to bring more harm than good. When they reach the shores of New York, circa 1968, they are hopeful things might work out for them and a change is coming their way. Will Kevin, Stuart, Bob and the rest of the gang finally find their ideal leader or will they roam the earth eternally miserable? This hilarious animated comedy features the voice talents of Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Michael Keaton (Birdman), Allison Janney (American Beauty) and Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge). Adults: £6 / Children: £5 / Friends of Whitby Pavilion: £5 / Family of 4: £20 Running Time: 98 mins Whitby Pavilion West Cliff Whitby, North Yorkshire YO21 3EN UK 01947 458 899 |
